Les Psy, vol. 7, by Bédu/Cauvin 6.5
Truth be told, I know very little about this series. This particular volume was given to me by a friend and I decided to give it a try because of its subject matter: psychiatry.
As a comic strip, it’s original. I certainly haven’t seen anything else like it: making light of the human condition through a therapist’s eyes is something I’ve only really seen on the screen before.
But the end result is only so-so. I love every concept presented here, but I don’t necessarily enjoy the directions they take. And I don’t find it very funny: at best, it’s amusing.
I do find the artwork rather appealing though. In fact, that may have been another draw for me (pun unintended!
). Aside from the lead character, I find the designs and overall rendering quite nice – albeit, a bit typical of similar French and Belgian strips.
I may someday be tempted to revisit ‘Les Psy’ (perhaps the earlier books were better?). But, as it stands, this book won’t see me take another couch trip anytime soon.
