The Thorn

TheThornThe Thorn is the main contributor of The Critical Eye, and has projectile-vomitted or participated in each and every single one of the site’s blurbs. Some days he wishes that he could afford a ghost writer.

He’s the former host of CHUO 89.1FM’s “What The…?” and organiser of Melomania, a music-discussion group. He’s an opinionated person who likes nothing more than to rave and rant about anything and everything.

Albeit not especially well.

***********************************************************************

Little known facts: The Thorn doesn’t even like movies – he just likes to rant. His aspiration is to someday find a way to rant in a coherent, literate fashion. He also hopes to not be around when Michael Bay inevitably produces a remake of ‘Annie Hall’, featuring a gun-toting Marky Mark.

His favourite films include: 2001: A Space Odyssey, Babe, Baraka, Being There, The Blues Brothers, Boyz n the Hood, The Crow, Cyrano de Bergerac, Dangerous Liaisons, Exotica, The Last Seduction, Memento, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, The Shining, Unbreakable, When Harry Met Sally and When Night is Falling.

…and Showgirls.

(no, not really!)

His favourite filmmakers include: Woody Allen, Catherine Breillat, Danny Boyle, Albert Brooks, Luis Buñuel, Alfred Hitchcock, Ki-duk Kim, Satoshi Kon, Stanley Kubrick, Akira Kurosawa, David Lynch, Deepa Mehta, Tom Tykwer and Billy Wilder.

His favourite actors/actresses include: Monica Bellucci, Cate Blanchet, Carole Bouquet, Pascale Bussière, George Clooney, Jane Fonda, Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Jack Lemmon, Vincent Price, Leonard Nimoy, and Peter Sellers.

He also kinda sorta likes: anything black (especially clothing), Calvin and Hobbes, George Carlin, Goth girls, Monty Python, Non Sequitur, The Muppets, navel-gazing (but not his own), 69s, Star Trek (original cast and TNG), the Star Wars trilogy (original theatrical versions only), 13s, and devouring souls (who wouldn’t, especially with a side order of slaw?).

He fervently despises: Michael Bay fans, one-handed coffee cup-clawed drones, the death of the video and music store, Albert Hitchcock, incessant chatter during a movie, George Lucas’ unvisionary revisionism, right-wing politics, Adam Sandler flicks, sedentary people blocking the escalator, William Shatner, streaming, text zombies cluttering the sidewalk, and “torture porn”.

Favourite quote: “Love is the answer, but while you are waiting for the answer, sex raises some pretty good questions.” – Woody Allen

Blurbs The Thorn has contributed to: All of them. Sad but true.
