Sigh… here’s the perfect example of the whole being less than the sum of its parts. The filmmakers took some of the key elements of the original film and tore them out of the recipe that made ‘Barbershop’ successful.

Sadly, by not respecting that formula, all they did was water it down and weaken the end result. They had great secondary characters the last time, but they were great AS secondary characters. Giving them a larger role was NOT a smart move; it’s become distracting, unfocused, and the magic that they brought in small doses has been overspent.

Plus which they had two very good ideas that competed with each other; they should have kept one for ‘Barbershop 3’ and let us concentrate on the other. Instead, they gave us a gmorgasbord of plot, all of which was weakly developped and delivered and pretty much guaranteed that we’ll never have a ‘Barbershop 3’.

…which is fine, ’cause all you need is the original anyway.

What do you think?
