Darkman II: The Return of Durant 2.75
Straight-to-video. The words sting. I don’t believe they’re such a thing as great straight-to-video. You might get “good”, but you’re more likely to get “middling-at-best”. Or, as is frequently the case, “bottom of the barrel”.
‘Darkman II’ is prototyical straght-to-video: it’s extremely low budget (and it shows), it has a barely competent cast and crew, it has a paint-by-numbers story (that’s also poorly written), and it reeks of amateur hour (or is that the death of a potential franchise that I smell?).
Even the new guy who plays the title character sucks. Of course, it’s probably hard to follow in the steps of Liam Neeson, but his body language is wrong, his voice is completely off and he inspires neither sympathy nor terror.
There is absolutely NOTHING to recommend this film. It could get worse – much, MUCH worse (trust me, I know!). But this is 90 mins of time that can never be gotten back. I’d watch an Uwe Boll film over this any day!
