While it’s one of the more celebrated Woody Allen films, I think that it falls in the “average fare” category for him: there are neurotic characters, there’s infidelity, there’s existential discourse, there’s humour, there’s drama and there are a bunch of really good actors keeping the whole thing moving exceptionally well.
It’s a good movie and it’s entertaining every single time that I watch it. But it’s not exceptional. And it’s certainly not Allen’s most original material or his most delightful film either. It’s merely good (which for other, lesser, filmmakers would probably be comparatively great).
