Brandon Routh proves a perfect choice to wear the hero’s cape, leading a top cast that includes Kate Bosworth as Lois and Kevin Spacey as Lex. And the thrills – from a sky-grapple with a tumbling jumbo jet to a continent-convulsing showdown – redefine Wow. “I’m always around,” Superman tells Lois. You’ll be glad he is.

Superman Returns 8.0

Honestly, I’m a BIG fan of the Christoper Reeve rendition of Superman, even if his movies were inconsistent. And what I like here is that Brandon Routh does a fine job of continuing his legacy Heck, he even has pretty much the same voice!

Granted, the movie isn’t perfect by any standard – but the first 2/3 of the movie would rate a solid 8.5 or more for me. It’s just that last bit that spoils it for me a little bit. It just lacks a certain… something.

And Kevin Spacey is the ultimate Lex Luthor. Of what I’ve seen so far, this is my second favourite performance of his – after the one from The Usual Suspects, of course
