The Couriers, by Brian Wood and Rob G 6.75
This is a hand-me-down book that was given to me by a friend. I can see why he didn’t hold on to it, as it’s all action and very little depth – somewhere along the lines of ‘The Transporter’, but for older teens and young adults.
Personally, I like its energy and vibe; it makes for an exciting read. ![]()
However, the story is so thin and implausible that it doesn’t have much long-term value. I mean, why would I read this same story a second time around if there’s not much to get out of it? ![]()
Oh, yeah… perhaps for the art.
Except that this oeuvre is the work of a developing artist. There’s talent here, but as of this book, Rob G has a weak eye for detail: proportions are off, the placement of characters and things in relation to each other shifts from one panel to the next, facial expressions often appear to be incomplete or inaccurate, …etc. ![]()
I’m hoping it’ll get better over time. If they hone their skills, Wood and G could turn this into an exciting if somewhat two-dimensional book. As it stands, however, it’s more of an esquisse of something better.
