American Vampire, vol. 2

American Vampire, vol. 2, by Scott Snyder, Farael Albuquerque and Mateus Santolouco 7.5

For this book, Snyder goes his own way throughout and gives us two separate stories (a 3-volume one and a 2-volume one) featuring Skinner Sweet; Stephen King was only a guest writer for the last one.

I like setting, early-period Las Vegas, because it completely opens up one’s imagination. It is Vegas after all, even if it’s only getting started. And there are a lot of opportunities for vampires to sink their teeth, or claws (as the case may be).evilgrin0007 Free Emoticons Evil

The end result is decent enough, but it didn’t reel me in the way it could have. It kind of falls in the middle of the previous book: better than the beginning of book one, but not as fulfilling as its last part.

The artwork, however, is improved due to the fact that Albuquerque is not handling the whole book. While Santolouco is less detailed in his penciling, at least the action sequences are more coherent.happy0024 Free Emoticons Happy

Am I ready for another book? I think that it warrants another go. But the next one will likely be the clincher – it will be the one that decides if I dig the series or not.

What do you think?
