Synopsis: A timid Japanese college girl tries to make ends meet as an S & M bondage girl-for-hire within a world of wealthy businessmen and lavish Tokyo penthouses. Her quest for true love contrasts with her dark nighttime life that is ridden with perverse sex and drugs. A cult classic, from the writer of Audition and featuring music by Academy Award winner Ryuichi Sakamoto.

I saw this film at the Mayfair for the first time some 15 years ago; I thought I should give it a second chance. Instead of getting an icky feeling throughout, this time I watched with a certain detachment. It’s a generally well-made film, but it ain’t for the faint of heart.
