The lead character’s life is so hard to accept, to digest, and yet the director managed to make it watchable without watering it all down. Furthermore, the film never falls into the usual Hollywood pitfalls of Disney-fying the outcomes; it feels real and doesn’t pander feel-good junk to the audience.
