Pillow Talk

Synopsis: It’s the delightful romantic comedy that started it all!

Rock Hudson and Doris Day, two of the screen’s most popular and enduring stars, are together for the very first time!

When Jan Marrow (Day), uptight interior decorator, is forced to share a party line with an carefree playboy Brad Allen (Hudson), there’s no connection between them. But when the two accidentally meet, the smitten Brad pretends to be a wealthy Texan, wooing Jan with seductive late-night calls. Their phone line is sizzling until Jan discovers her caller’s true identity and calls his bluff. Winner of an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, this delicious romp co-stars Tony Randall and Thelma Ritter.

Pillow Talk 8.5

Recently admitted in the US Library of Congress Film Archives, ‘Pillow Talk’ is a standout romantic comedy of the late ’50s that has seen far too many imitators since.

It isn’t the best film I’ve ever seen, in that is has clearly aged in many ways, but the humour is still spot on, and the performances by Doris Day and Rock Hudson are truly memorable: their charisma is palpable and it’s no wonder that they would soon end up making two more films together – including their hilarious side-kick Tony Randall in each one as well.

‘Pillow Talk’ is fun and is easily recommended for a light, romantic evening with a loved one
