Brain Candy 8.0
As a fan of Kids In The Hall since they first popped up on the CBC, I was thrilled to see them on the big screen many years later, with what turned out to be a very timely and topical subject: the use and abuse of anti-depressants in our society.
This was back in the mid-90s, a couple of years after the books Listening to Prozac and Prozac Nation were all the rage, and it was a the perfect humourous antidote to the over-prescription madness that seemed omnipresent at the time.
The Kids failed at the box office, but completely hit their mark with this film, which incorporates notable characters from their sketches with new ones, in what is a pretty cohesive and linear story – and a fantastically funny one, at that!
It’s a shame that they were never to grace the screen again – because we could always do with more observational comedy to counter the downsides of everyday life.
