It’s Impossible to Learn to Plow By Reading Books 6.0
This is not much of a movie. As the title suggests, this is actually an experiment in filmmaking.
Richard Linklater was essentially filming banal stuff to learn how to film and he pieced it together into some semi-coherent narrative. It’s like watching a series of home movies bits – but without the narration to explain what’s so noteworthy about the images you’re being force-fed.
There’s hardly any dialogue (and what little there is muffled and lost in the background) and many sequences don’t follow each other well at all – it’s stilted and clearly unscripted.
…but, despite being relatively bored throughout, I have to give the guy a few extra points for guts: he picked up a camera, learned how to use by himself, and pastiched the results into something that is film-like.
Heck, I’ve seen scripted movies with actors and a budget end up a LOT worse than this. The fact that he didn’t crash and burn is a good start, when one considers the kind of film he made.
