Making Mr. Right

Synopsis: She thought she had it all together. Then she met a man made of parts.

What do you do when you’ve fallen hard…for a man who’s hard-wired? John Malkovich (Being John Malkovich) and Ann Magnuson (Panic Room) star in this “fast, funny and precious” (L.A. Weekly) comedy from director Susan Seidelman (Desperately Seeking Susan) and writers Floyd Byars and Laurie Frank.

Savvy and beautiful PR executive Frankie Stone (Magnuson) has her work cut out for her. Hired by a giant technology company to “humanize” their latest invention — an android astronaut named Ulysses (Malkovich) — she is shocked to discover that her new client embodies all the qualities she’s ever wanted in a man! When they begin to fall for one another, will their robotic romance blast into the stratosphere…or blow a circuit and crash?

Making Mr. Right 4.5

I wanted to like this movie: I love the concept. I mean, what would happen if a woman could build her male companion in exacr detail? Think of the possibilities – doesn’t it put a smile on your face? I mean, it could have been fodder for some pretty interesting discussions… and a fair bit of mirth laughing

Alas, the production was mired by an unforgivingly low budget and the story was simple-minded in its construction and development. Nothing was good enough to overcome these issues; even John Malkovich, and actor you can usually rely on for a devastating performance, was shaky at best.

Oh well… count me in if they ever put together a half-decent remake smile

What do you think?
