Carlito’s Way

Synopsis: From the director of Scarface come the critically acclaimed crime thriller Carlito’s Way. Oscar® winner Al Pacino gives an electrifying performance as former drug kingpin Carlito Brigante, who is sprung from prison by his high-powered attorney (Academy Award® winner Sean Penn). He stuns the New York underworld by vowing to go straight from a history of violence, but his plans are undermined by misguided loyalties and an outmoded code of honor. In a life-or-death battle, Carlito takes on the relentless forces that refuse to let him go. Co-starring John Leguizamo and Luis Guzmán, Carlito’s Way is a powerful, action-packed ride all the way to its explosive conclusion.

Carlito’s Way 8.0

Sean Penn is really amazing in this. I guess he was honing his acting chops earlier than I remembered – I thought it had started with Dead Man Walking, but I was wrong. Dead wrong *snort*

Al Pacino is bearable here – he doesn’t shout too much and he does have a few nice scenes. Penelope Ann Miller is really weak compared to the two of them, however; she delivered almost all her lines as though she’d been at the dentist just beforehand. *sighs*

Anyway, the movie has a couple of ‘Hollywood’ moments in it (including the end) but, overall, it’s a rather enjoyable way to spend two and half hours. If you like organized crime stories, of course smile

(hmmm… is it obvious that Public Enemies totally motivated me to get through all my ‘mob’ movies once and for all? wink Well, there are a few more to come before we get back to business-as-usual Stay tuned laughing)

What do you think?
