Synopsis: Caught in a clash of cultures and ready to wreak more havoc on Japan than Godzilla, the Bad News Bears are back for their third outing, following the enormously successful Bad News Bears and The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training. This time the Bears have been spirited off to Tokyo by Marvin Lazar (Tony Curtis), a slick con artist who sees in the team a perfect peg for a get-rich-quick scheme. The strikeout-prone Bears are pitted against a murderously skillful Japanese junior baseball team, and the resulting comic chaos is hilarious.

The Bad News Bears Go to Japan 5.0

Not a good movie. But I didn’t dislike it. I guess it’s the sort of thing you could let your kids watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Having said that, could someone please explain to me why almost half of the movie is in Japanese – without subtitles or some form of translation? I mean, not only were the American characters bewildered by what was obviously inexplicable to them… but so is the audience!

If only it served to show two cultures overcoming their inability to communicate, or to pick out humour in a difficult situation, or if it were a tool to force the characters to bond in ways other than language. Nope. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

So… um… what was the point, exactly?
